3d-print radiolaria

In Greek, plankton means ‘made to roam’. For millions of years, these microorganisms floating in the water have played a crucial role in the Earth's ecosystem; we humans also depend on them. At 0.03 to 0.2 millimetres in size, plankton is indistinguishable to the naked eye. Artist Vincent Mock made nano-CT scans of planktonic radiolarians (radiolaria), which he enlarged into 3D prints and then cast in bronze. It provides intriguing tactile objects and is intended as a warning, as plankton is a key indicator of climate change. Mock was not the first with a micro-zoo fascination, think of Ernst Haeckel's nineteenth-century drawings.
