Canto Ostinato is beautiful music by Simeon ten Holt, monotonous and repetitive, one might almost say ‘efficient’. The composition fades organically, one thing flowing from another, to gradually result in a complete transformation. Gero first heard this hypnotic melody in 1979, the composition being just then finished. Officially, it is performed on four pianos and lasts an hour and a half. But it can also be performed in short form and on a music box.
