Over time, design technology has changed considerably. However, this does not apply to the beginning of the design process: which is still the drawing board, and requires a pen and paper. Since you process and express ideas only by sketching, this is likely to remain true regardless of future developments. Sketching on paper is the purest, as it is the most direct form of architectural design.
