The dismantling of the Zuiderstrandtheater in Scheveningen started in January. The building elements will move to Oss, where theatre De Lievekamp will be expanded using them in a circular way. A unique collaboration, resulting in spectacular images. On Wednesday the 24th of may, there was a festive toast to the removal of the letters at the top of the stage tower.
dismantling
Now that the dismantling is almost complete, you can see through the theatre building of the Zuiderstrandtheater. The interior has allready been removed and transported to Oss. Right now, the concrete facade slabs are being loosened. The hollow-core slabs and the steel structure form the final step of the dismantling. The entire shell of the Zuiderstrandtheater will in fact be reused in the new Lievekamp theatre in Oss.
reuse
At the time, the Zuiderstrandtheater was built as a temporary theatre. After the new cultural centre Amare opened its doors, the municipality of The Hague was looking for a new user. The municipality required at least 70 percent of the theatre to be reused. "But our ambition is even higher," says Menno Rubbens, director of cepezedprojects. The main load-bearing structure alone includes the steel structure, channel plates, stairs, concrete facades and roof plates. The reuse of these represents the biggest environmental gain.
smooth process
Relocating an entire building, and certainly a theatre, is absolutely unique in the Netherlands. The process is running smoothly so far, thanks to the good coorperation between parties involved. Therefore, a festive toast was raised to the hoisting out of the letters by Coen Bais (director De Lievekamp), Joost Puttenstein (Lagemaat), Patrice Kuypers (project leader at the municipality of Oss), Frederique van Alphen and Paddy Sieuwerts (cepezed), and Menno Rubbens and Oliver Martens (cepezedprojects). "The dismantling is right on schedule and is quite exceptional to follow," said Rubbens.
The Zuiderstrandtheater is scheduled to be completely removed by the third quarter of 2023.
