‘first tree’ police assembly site in Drachte

Last Thursday, the festive green light was given for the realisation of the new police assembly site in Drachten. The Police, cepezed and BAM Integrale Projecten Noord planted a tree together. For this assembly site, the landscape is at least as important as the buildings. The tree also symbolises the dynamic start and growing collaboration.

surrounded by water
For this sustainable project on the Azeven-Noord industrial estate in Drachten, the existing 112 emergency centre will be given a new wing. Across from it, a new building will be constructed for forensic research and a new boiler room. The location of the buildings is unique: the collection site in Drachten consists of islands and is therefore completely surrounded by water. The design by cepezed and BoschSlabbers Landschapsarchitecten fits in nicely with this.

integral design
The outdoor space will be designed as a park and will be accessible to employees. Because the buildings are not located directly on the water, the banks are wide enough for nature to develop, and plants have been added where possible in the more stone-filled areas, such as the car parks. In an integrated design, cepezed and BoschSlabbers have matched vistas and wooden decks to windows and entrances. The park layout and elegant arched bridges accentuate the islands' structure.

CO2 reduction
cepezed designed an efficient, modular construction kit, with a special feature in each building, such as a patio or a skylight filled hall and wooden roof girders. The project includes several applications that further reduce CO2 emissions. For example, 50 percent of the steel structure is made from recycled steel ore melted in electric furnaces, and residual concrete is processed into concrete blocks for other purposes.

Green-blue campus
With the realisation and future completion of the project, the police in northern Netherlands will combine their forensic activities, resulting in a more efficient and practical approach. The new building for forensic research and the boiler seizure house will be completed in May 2026. The entire project will be finished in March 2027, when the Police will have a green-blue campus.
