The Hague Zuiderstrandtheater may be saved from demolition. Lagemaat BV and cepezedprojects are going to investigate whether the theatre can be given a place elsewhere. Both parties are familiar with circular issues of this kind. The Temporary Court Amsterdam was developed by cepezedprojects and is being moved by Lagemaat BV.
built temporarily
With the completion of culture house Amare in the centre of The Hague, the curtain falls on the temporarily built Zuiderstrandtheater constructed in 2014. From the beginning of next year, business premises, homes and a parking garage will be built on this site at the end of Houtrustweg. At the end of this year, the theatre will disappear from the Scheveningen harbour.
circular solution
The Municipality of The Hague seeks a solution that is as circular as possible: rebuilding or reusing materials. Lagemaat BV and cepezedprojects, commissioned by the municipality, are going to investigate the rebuilding of the Zuiderstrandtheater on another location. At the end of April, it will be determined whether relocation is feasible. Otherwise, the building will be dismantled in a circular fashion.
experienced parties
cepezedprojects is familiar with such circular issues. Together with Du Prie bouw & ontwikkeling, cepezedprojects built the Tijdelijke Rechtbank Amsterdam (Temporary Court Amsterdam), a permanent building that was allowed to remain on the designated location on Fred. Roeskestraat. After that, it had to disappear. Exactly as is now the case with the Zuiderstrandtheater.
“The Temporary Court Amsterdam is unique, because it was designed to be dismantled,” says Arend van de Beek of Lagemaat BV, the company that will dismantle the court, move it and rebuild it in Enschede. Lagemaat BV will also possibly take on the dismantling and reassembly of the Zuiderstrand Theatre.
