At the beginning of April, the Cambreur College gave the invited press an official presentation of the final design for their new high school building in Dongen, designed by cepezed. Present were alderman Bea van Beers of education, several officials from the municipality of Dongen as well as the Cambreur directors René Hermans and Helga van der Weele.
Hermans described the presentation as “a festive moment”, in which he further explained the process of the new-build development. “We are really happy that the entire process went so well. We think it’s important that an architect is flexible”, continues René Hermans. “We also want to be a good neighbour to the people living in the vicinity of the school. During the design process, we spoke with the local residents on a regular basis and the architect took their remarks into account. The design was adjusted accordingly in order to really live up to that role as a considerate neighbour."
The new accommodation will be compact, transparent and adaptable to its use and future development of the school. Concerning sustainability, the roof will be equipped with solar panels, highly energy-sufficient climate control installations, a heat pump for the high-efficiency central heating system and the old gyms will be integrated into the light and open new-build structure. The new Cambreur College will meet the Dutch sustainability regulations of BENG.
The procurement process for the contractor is currently starting, so that the preparations for construction work can commence this summer. The new school is scheduled to be taking into use by Spring of 2021.
