The design for the multi-tenant research building Plus Utra at the Medical Business Park in Amsterdam has been granted a Breeam Outstanding certification! It achieved a total score of over 90%. The building will have no gas connection, will largely provide its own energy, will be rich in daylight and super flexible. The park on the grounds of the Amsterdam University Medical Center location AMC will thus be enriched with a strongly future-oriented building.
innovation, collaboration and flexibility
The 8,200 m2 building will contain offices, laboratories and various shared facilities for various organizations and companies conducting research in the medical sector. Thus, it is specifically aimed at new impulses for further innovation in the life sciences & health sector. Plus Ultra makes it easy for companies to share facilities and costs, while it is also strongly focused on knowledge-sharing, synergy and collaboration. Hence, it will make an important contribution to future care in Amsterdam and beyond. The flexible design makes it possible to adapt the building time and again to the current needs of the start-ups, scale-ups and larger users of the building.
pleasant and energy-efficient
The all-sided building forms a pleasant, healthy living environment and has a double-height transparent plinth. In the heart it has an atrium with a staircase that is also transparent and focuses on the greenery outside. The facades are vertically accentuated with strips of dark tinted aluminium. The southeast and southwest facades are fitted with PV fins that both generate energy and provide sun protection. The roof structure with installations is also covered all around with PV panels. For optimum climate control and efficient energy management, use is also made of heat recovery, a thermal storage system and climate ceilings.

Plus Ultra Amsterdam is a development of Kadans Science Partner, which focuses entirely on housing for knowledge-intensive organizations in and around science parks and university campuses. And thus proactively contributes to scientific knowledge networks. With Kadans, cepezed is also realizing a Plus Ultra building in Leiden and much larger-scale Accelerator buildings in Utrecht and Amsterdam. The implementation of Plus Ultra Leiden and Accelerator Utrecht is already well advanced.
