In 100 years time, will all our buildings be demountable? That is the central question posed in The Circular Construction Podcast by the Transition Team Circular Construction Economy. Menno Rubbens -circular hero 2022- develops demountable buildings that can withstand the future and retain their value. He discusses his vision with Marjet Rutten (innovator in the construction, installation and real estate sector) and Vincent Gruis (Professor of Housing Management, TU Delft).
circular objectives
The 'Circular Construction Podcast' investigates how circular construction can contribute to the major challenges in the area of house, road and water construction. Besides bio-based building and recycling (second-hand materials), demountable building is a very sustainable form of circularity.
The ninth episode of this podcast series is about demountable construction. In other words: using far fewer primary materials in order to achieve the circular objectives for the coming years. Because one sustainable way to reuse materials is to design buildings in such a way that they can be disassembled like a construction set after their lifespan. This is the vision of Menno Rubbens, director of cepezedprojects, who realised the Temporary Court Amsterdam, the exemplary project in the field of detachable and circular construction.
first circular building of the Netherlands
The basis of this extraordinary building was the designed by the architecture firm cepezed. Rubbens was the instigator of the design and its realisation. He succeeded in this with his company cepezedprojects in cooperation with Du Prie bouw & ontwikkeling.
In the meantime, after the planned five year usage period, the building has been carefully dismantled by Lagemaat BV. This company from Heerde takes care of the disassembly of all elements and their reassembly in Enschede. This podcast is about the 'disassembly of the first circular building in the Netherlands', according to The Circular Construction Economy.
