With their entry Building D(emountable), Alex Zwanenburg and Rik de Brouwer are the winners of the circular design contest cepezed and the Delft study association Stylos launched in April this year. Last Thursday, all participants presented their entries during a festive drink at cepezed. The competition is part of extensive festivities around the 25th Stylos lustrum and also marks the realization of the new Building D(emountable) on the cepezed site between the Ezelsveldlaan and Nieuwelaan in Delft.
Second-year Bachelor’s students of Architecture at the TU Delft were challenged to reinterpret Building D(emountable) for the contest, aiming at an even higher degree of circularity. As an introduction, participants first attended an inspiration workshop at cepezed in May. It covered cepezed projects such as the Temporary Courthouse in Amsterdam, The Green House in Utrecht and of course Building D(emountable) itself. Following the workshop, the participants visited the construction site of the new building.
The entries were judged by a three-member cepezed jury consisting the project manager of Building D(emountable)’s realization Doris Harding, building technologist Joost Heijnis and architect Job van den Heuvel. The winning redesign had a concept that worked well on different levels and was thought up and developed at a high level in only a short time. The use of truck tarpaulin for the façade was innovative as well. The Zwanenenberg-de Brouwer duo had even redesigned the climate system. Moreover, in accordance with the name Building D(ouble use), their entry was aimed at multiple functionality.
All participants received a set of books from the series the work by cepezed. Of course, the winners were also bestowed with eternal fame. They also received a bottle of cava and an invitation for an internship interview. cepezed wishes to thank all students for their participation and creativity. With the contest, cepezed aimed at already making them aware of the importance and possibilities of circularity in this early stage of their studies.
