progress construction new pier schiphol

The realization of the new pier at Schiphol has made some major steps again. Construction started more than a year ago and last summer, the 55,000 m² pier topped out. Since then, a lot of additional work was done.

internal transportation

For internal transportation, the first of 29 escalators were installed. In addition, there will also be 33 elevators and 15 moving walkways. Within three control and security regimes, these all will process 20 types of passenger flows for arrivals, departures and transfers.

gatehouses

The steel frames of the gatehouses were also placed into position. For starters, the pier will feature eight gates: five for narrow-body planes on the north side and three for wide-body planes on the south side, which can also be used to accommodate six narrow-body planes. Two wide-body gates will be added to the south side at a later stage.

façades

The mounting of the glass façades commenced as well. These façades provide a lot of transparency, daylight and offer long sight lines. They are highly insulating, climate-adaptive, have a double skin and make an important contribution to the sustainability of the pier. At the beginning of 2020, the gatehouses will also get their façades. The completion and commissioning of the pier are planned for the end of next year. We will keep you posted!
