Miguel studied architecture at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Sevilla. It was here that his love for the renovations of historical buildings blossomed. Reflected directly in his graduation project, where he designed a visitor centre for the Mezquita Catedral in Cordoba.
After finishing school, Miguel worked in Spain for a year before moving to the Netherlands. Here he worked at several firms, including the Amsterdam establishment of Cruz y Ortiz arquitectos. Here, he learned to elaborate buildings down to the last details, which fits very well with cepezed's working method and philosophy.
Miguel appreciates the detailed sophistication of the cepezed buildings exactly because the aesthetics stay simplistic. ‘The high ambitions, combined with the simplest possible design results in enormously beautiful buildings. Only necessary elements are added,' says Miguel.
One project Miguel is proud of is Squadron 860. He thinks it is ‘special to work for a client like the Ministry of Defence, because he realises that the organisation and the building really contribute something to society’. He sees his passion for historical renovations reflected more in Dulon, a previously dark and outdated secondary school building where the structure was reused and lots of daylight was applied. A building that now suits today's forms of education much better.
